The High Priestess is one of Windrose's most challenging boss encounters, located deep in the Cursed Swamps region. She is a level 35 boss with three distinct phases, each with unique attack patterns and mechanics. Defeating her is required to progress the Cursed Swamps storyline and she drops some of the best rare items in the game, including the lightweight hull blueprint essential for S-tier ship builds.
To reach the High Priestess, navigate to the center of the Cursed Swamps, where a large ruined temple rises from the murky water. The temple is guarded by Cursed Swamps enemies including swamp lurkers and venomous serpents, so clear a path before engaging the boss. The encounter begins when you step onto the temple's central platform, and there is no way to leave once the fight starts, so ensure you are fully prepared.
Recommended level for this encounter is 30 or higher, though skilled players have completed it at level 25 with optimal gear. Bring at least 10 healing potions, 5 antidotes for the poison attacks, and a weapon with fire damage, as the High Priestess is weak to fire. If playing in co-op, a party of 3 to 4 players at level 25 can clear the encounter comfortably.
The High Priestess has 15,000 health across her three phases. Phase 1 accounts for the first 6,000 health, phase 2 covers the next 5,000, and phase 3 covers the final 4,000. Each phase transitions with a brief invulnerability period during which she changes attack patterns, giving you a few seconds to reposition and heal.
| Phase | Health Range | Key Mechanic | Weakness |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 15,000 - 9,000 | Shadow bolts | Fire damage |
| 2 | 9,000 - 4,000 | Summon adds | Area attacks |
| 3 | 4,000 - 0 | Enrage + teleports | Stun effects |

Phase 1 Strategy: Shadow Bolts and Dodging
Phase 1 begins the moment you step onto the temple platform. The High Priestess floats above the center of the arena and fires shadow bolts at your position. These bolts travel in a straight line and deal 300 damage per hit, which is significant at level 30 where your total health is approximately 1,500. The key to surviving phase 1 is constant movement.
The shadow bolts have a 0.5 second telegraph where a dark line appears showing the bolt's path. When you see this telegraph, dodge perpendicular to the line, not backwards or forwards. Dodging sideways avoids the bolt entirely, while dodging along its path means you may still get hit. Practice the timing in the first 10 seconds of the fight before committing to aggressive attacks.
Every 15 seconds, the High Priestess fires a volley of 5 shadow bolts in a spread pattern. This volley is harder to dodge because the spread covers a wide area. When you see her raise both hands, which is the volley telegraph, run to the edge of the arena and dodge through the gap between bolts. The gap is always largest at maximum range, so distance is your friend during volleys.
For damage, use a fire-enchanted weapon and attack during the windows between volleys. The High Priestess takes 50 percent bonus damage from fire, so a fire sword or fire arrows significantly speed up phase 1. Ranged players should use fire arrows from maximum range, dodging bolts between shots. Melee players should dash in after a volley, land 2 to 3 hits, then dash out before the next bolt.
Avoid standing in the dark pools that appear on the arena floor during phase 1. These pools deal 50 damage per second and slow your movement by 30 percent, making it harder to dodge shadow bolts. The pools disappear after 10 seconds, so wait them out rather than running through. Phase 1 ends when the High Priestess reaches 9,000 health, at which point she becomes invulnerable for 5 seconds and transitions to phase 2.
- Dodge perpendicular to shadow bolt paths
- Run to arena edge during volley attacks
- Use fire weapons for 50% bonus damage
- Avoid dark pools on the floor
- Attack during windows between volleys
Phase 2 Strategy: Add Management
Phase 2 begins at 9,000 health and introduces a new mechanic: summoning. Every 20 seconds, the High Priestess summons 3 Cursed Acolytes, which are small melee enemies that rush toward you and deal 150 damage per hit. While the acolytes are alive, the High Priestess continues firing shadow bolts, creating a dual threat that overwhelms unprepared players.
The key to phase 2 is prioritizing add kills. Ignore the High Priestess while acolytes are alive and focus entirely on clearing them. Acolytes have only 500 health each and die to 2 or 3 hits from any weapon. Use area-of-effect attacks if available, as the acolytes tend to cluster when they reach your position. A fire bomb or grenade can clear all 3 acolytes in a single attack.
Once the acolytes are cleared, you have approximately 10 seconds before the next summon to damage the High Priestess. Use this window aggressively, landing as many fire attacks as possible. If you have a damage-boosting consumable like a fire essence potion, activate it during these windows to maximize damage output.
Positioning is critical in phase 2. Stay near the center of the arena, where you have maximum mobility in all directions. If you get pushed to the edge by acolytes, you risk being cornered and taking consecutive hits. Keep moving in a circular pattern around the arena, killing acolytes as they spawn and chipping away at the boss between summons.
In co-op, assign one player to add duty while the others focus on the boss. This division of labor makes phase 2 much easier, as the add-focused player can clear acolytes immediately while the DPS players maintain continuous pressure on the High Priestess. Coordinate summon timings so the add player is ready when the next wave spawns.
Phase 2 ends at 4,000 health. The transition to phase 3 is marked by a screen-wide dark pulse that deals 200 damage and knocks you back. Heal immediately after this pulse, because phase 3 is the most dangerous phase and you need full health going in.
- Prioritize killing Cursed Acolytes immediately
- Use AoE attacks to clear grouped adds
- Damage boss during 10-second windows
- Stay near arena center for mobility
- Assign add duty in co-op play
Phase 3 Strategy: Enrage and Teleport
Phase 3 is the High Priestess's enrage phase, and it is where most attempts fail. She stops summoning acolytes but gains two new abilities: teleportation and a rapid-fire shadow bolt spray. She teleports every 5 seconds to a random position in the arena, making her difficult to track and attack. The shadow bolt spray fires 10 bolts in a circle around her, covering all directions and dealing 250 damage per hit.
The teleport pattern is not truly random. She always teleports to one of 8 fixed positions around the arena, corresponding to the cardinal and intercardinal directions. After a few teleports, you will recognize the positions and can pre-position to attack. When she disappears, immediately look for the dark flash that marks her new location and dash toward it.
The shadow bolt spray is telegraphed by a purple glow around her body. When you see this glow, create distance immediately. The bolts travel outward in all directions, so you need to be at least 10 meters away to have time to dodge between them. Dodge through the gaps between bolts, which are wider at greater distances.
Stun effects are the key to phase 3. The High Priestess is vulnerable to stun during the 1 second after each teleport. If you hit her with a stun ability immediately after she appears, she is immobilized for 3 seconds, during which you can land multiple attacks without dodging. The best stun weapons are the warhammer and the stun bomb consumable.
Burn damage is extremely effective in phase 3 because it continues dealing damage while you focus on dodging. Apply fire damage with every attack, and use a fire essence potion to boost burn damage by 50 percent. If you maintain burn throughout phase 3, the damage-over-time alone can account for 1,500 to 2,000 of the 4,000 health needed to finish the fight.
When the High Priestess reaches 0 health, she collapses and the encounter ends. She drops the Cursed Amulet (a rare accessory that increases shadow resistance by 25 percent), the lightweight hull blueprint (essential for S-tier ship builds), 500 gold, and 2 random rare items. The lightweight hull blueprint is the most valuable drop and is the primary reason players farm this encounter repeatedly.
| Loot Item | Drop Rate | Value |
|---|---|---|
| Cursed Amulet | 100% | Unique accessory |
| Lightweight hull blueprint | 50% | S-tier ship module |
| 500 gold | 100% | Currency |
| Rare item x2 | 100% | Random gear |
